Welcome to Eugenia B. Thomas K-8's
Marlin Art Wave
Welcome to The Marlin Art Wave, the online home of the Upper Academy Visual Arts program at Eugenia B. Thomas K-8 Center! This is where creativity comes to life and every student is encouraged to think like an artist, take creative risks, and make waves through art.
Whether you're a student, parent, or visitor, this website is your guide to everything happening in our art classroom. Here you'll find current projects, class resources, important announcements, student artwork, upcoming events, and opportunities to celebrate creativity both inside and outside the classroom.
Our art program is built on the belief that art is more than creating beautiful work—it's about developing imagination, problem-solving skills, confidence, and self-expression. Throughout the year, students will explore drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, mixed media, art history, and contemporary artists while discovering their own unique artistic voice.
We invite you to explore, be inspired, and join us as we continue to make waves through creativity!
🎁 Make a Difference in Our Art Classroom
🛒 Amazon Wish List for Ms. Garcia's Art Room
Creating art requires imagination, but it also requires materials. Throughout the school year, our students explore drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, mixed media, and more, which means our classroom supplies are constantly being used and replenished. If you'd like to support our young artists, I've created an Amazon Wish List filled with items that will help keep our studio stocked with the tools and materials they need to create, experiment, and grow. The list includes items ranging from under $10 to $30+, so there's something for every budget. Every donation, no matter the size, makes a meaningful difference and is sincerely appreciated.
Making History, One Print at a Time
In addition to my classroom Amazon Wish List, I also have a DonorsChoose project dedicated to our Reduction Printmaking unit. Reduction printing is a fascinating process that teaches students patience, planning, problem-solving, and perseverance as they create multiple layers from a single printing block. Beyond the artistic skills, printmaking has played a major role throughout history—it made it possible to reproduce books, maps, newspapers, and important historical documents, helping spread knowledge, ideas, and cultural movements long before the digital age. The specialized supplies needed for this unit, such as printmaking ink, carving tools, brayers, and linoleum blocks, are not available in the bulk quantities needed for an entire class through Amazon, making DonorsChoose the best way to fund these essential materials and provide students with an authentic printmaking experience.
